Company Profile
The sailing water is 475 acres – almost two kilometres long (about a mile) and over a kilometre wide – making it one of the largest deep reservoirs in Southern England. It is large enough for all dinghy classes, small keelboats and catamarans. The water is ideal for all kinds of sailing events from junior/youth and club to national and international levels. There are 300 meters of beach making it easy to rig and launch.
Sailing:
The water is open every day except Mondays, Tuesdays and Christmas Day, weather permitting, Whenever the water is open, patrol boat cover is provided.
Every Sunday the main class racing series take place. On Wednesday evenings during the summer, there is a very popular handicap series for sailors of all abilities to join in. This is a great way to break up the week. The club has a special Youth racing programme for our developing young sailors. All these run alongside many open meetings.
Junior and Youth Sailing:
During the summer, the club has a very popular junior sailing flotilla. This provides a fun way to progress through the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) junior sailing scheme, learning essential sailing skills before joining in the main racing events.
Windsurfing:
The great length of the reservoir and the uninterrupted wind are very attractive to windsurfers. From May to September, Thursday evening is the racing evening for members and visitors.
Visitors:
Visiting sailors and windsurfers are welcome for day sailing. Those with their own boats or boards may visit the club and sail whenever the water is open.
Datchet Water Sailing Club and the RYA:
The club is an RYA training establishment and a champion club. Many RYA conferences and coaching events are held here. We offer the full range of junior and adult RYA sailing courses.
Pathways:
Sailing clubs offer increasing numbers of opportunities for paid work and for members to run the water parts of club activities. All need training and Datchet has courses on safety on the water, first aid, power boats (for coxwains and instructors), race officers to regional level and dinghy instructors.
