European Code for Inland Waterways (Code Europeen des Voies de la Navigation Interieure) governs navigation on all interconnected waterways of Europe. The CEVNI is the "highway code of the inland waterways" and provides a set of signs, rules and procedures. Anyone skippering a vessel on inland waterways of Europe (not including the UK) should have passed the CEVNI test which is an addition to the International Certificate of Competence (ICC).
The CEVNI assessment is accessed through the RYA Interactive website. Once you complete payment for the CEVNI Test through our website you will be send full instructions explaining what you need to do next, together with a security key that opens up full access to the RYA Interactive CEVNI site, including a practice area to help you check if you’re ready for the real test. You can use the practice area as much as you like, but don't worry, your scores aren’t recorded. If you have any questions before you take the test we will provide you with contact details so that you can speak to one of our instructors directly.
The CEVNI RYA Interactive assessment test is divided into two sections, part 1: signs and buoyage, part 2: sounds, lights and shapes. There are 15 multi-choice questions in each part with the whole test taking about 20 minutes to complete. While the test is designed to be taken in the comfort of your own home at your convenience, if you wish to tag it on to one of our other courses, you can take the course in the comfort of our classroom or even on board if you prefer.
