EFFICIENT DECK HAND (EDH)
This course is suitable for those with at least 6 months sea service in vessels of more than 15m who wish to progress from basic deckhand to able bodied seafarer qualifications.
Entry Requirements:
Candidates must be at least 17 years old and have completed STCW basic safety courses; hold a steering or navigation watch rating certificate and the seafarer medical test (ENG1) before a certificate will be issued.

Course Structure
The course includes theoretical and practical training in all elements of seamanship including:
Rope and wire handling
Anchors and mooring techniques
Opening and closing cargo hatches
Cargo gear and rigging
Gangway and pilot ladders
Watch-keeping and other duties

Progression Opportunities:
On completion of 36 months of qualifying sea service, in an acceptable deck capacity, you may be eligible to undertake the HNC Nautical Science course and progress to MCA certification towards Officer of the Watch Certificate of Competency.
