Efficient Deck Hand A 5 day course covering basic seamanship including: knots, bends, hitches; splicing of rope and wire; whippings; deck safety; hatch covers; cranes and derricks; lookout/watch keeping duties and other related matters. This is a qualifying examination for MCA OOW Yachts <3000gt and Merchant AB and deck rating certification. Can be taken after the seafarer has: reached 17 years of age served at least 12 months in the deck department obtained the Basic Safety Training Certificates obtained a Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competency (for Yacht candidates)OR obtained a Navigational Watch Rating Certificate candidate must hold a valid ENG1 medical certificate
