This is a ½ day course in which delegates will gain a basic knowledge and understanding of the requirements set out in STCW 95 Regulation VI/1 and paragraph 2.1.3. of section A-VI/1 of the STCW code which consists of theoretical and practical sessions in the classroom to give all persons intending to go to sea, a basic introduction to the immediate actions to be taken when encountering an accident or other medical emergency on board ship.
Useful Information
By the end of this training programme the delegate will:
•Position the casualty
•Apply resuscitation techniques
•Control bleeding
•Apply appropriate basic shock management techniques
•Apply appropriate measures in the event of burns and scalds
•Rescue and transport a casualty
•Improvise bandages and use an emergency first aid kit
Prerequisites
•Prior experience is not needed for those wishing to undertake training.
•Delegates must be at least 16 years of age
•Due to certain aspects of the course being physically demanding and potentially stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement
