This course will ensure seafarers who hold a valid Basic Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FP&FF) certificate as set out in STCW 95 regulation VI/1 and section A-VI/1 of the STCW code can revalidate their competency in accordance with Section A-VI/1 of STCW paragraph 3. Which states that “seafarers qualified in accordance with paragraph 2 in basic training shall be required, every five years, to provide evidence of having maintained the required standard of competence” in accordance with the STCW 2010 Manila Amendments.
Course Structure
•Correct use of portable and mobile (wheeled) fire extinguishers on appropriate fires
• Correct use of hoses, nozzles and hose equipment
• The extinguishing of different types of fires as a member of a team, using a range of equipment commonly found on board a vessel
• How to test and use BA and associated equipment

Useful Information
PRE-REQUISITES
For updating training to be undertaken, Seafarers must have:
• Six months or more sea service prior to 1st August 1998 and were exempt from basic safety courses
• Seafarers who have a Certificate of Competency in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting.
• Candidates will be asked to complete a Medical Declaration to prove their fitness prior to completion of the training.
