Our fire course gives you the knowledge and skills needed to use fire fighting equipment to reduce a fire to a safe and controlled state. You learn how fires at sea are caused and the precautions needed to minimise the risk to life.
This is part of the mandatory STCW Basic Safety Training course, which also includes Elementary First Aid, Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities, Personal Survival Techniques and Proficiency in Security Awareness.
If you are wanting to work on Superyachts but have little yachting experience, you may want to consider getting more experience by joining our Superyacht Deckhand or Steward/ess Course.
Course Structure
This course begins on Monday afternoon and finishes on Wednesday afternoon. The course is made up of a mixture of classroom based and practical training.
Useful Information
Our STCW course takes place in Cowes, on the Isle of wight. If you choose our accommodation option, then you will stay in one of our crew houses in Cowes, comfortable and centrally located, only a 2-minute walk to the town and our training centre.

There are no formal pre-course requirements but you must be 17 to enrol onto this course. Fire fighting is physically demanding and requires a good level of fitness. We recommend that all customers complete an ENG1 medical or equivalent medical before enrolling onto this course. If you have concerns over your fitness then please contact Flying Fish.
