Many European countries require the skipper of a pleasure craft to be able to provide documentary evidence of their competence in terms of boat handling and basic navigation.
Full details of the ICC can be found by visiting the RYA web site, but here at 5 Star Marine we can offer the means to do both the required test for experienced boat handlers and a 3 day ICC course for new boaters and those wishing to charter boats abroad where an ICC is a condition of the charter.
In very general terms an ICC is required for the inland waterways of Europe and for inland and coastal waters of Mediterranean countries. For the coastal waters of Northern Europe the ICC is generally not required, however to all of these generalisations there are exceptions. An endorsement is also required if wanting to use/visit the inland waterways of countries such as Holland – this is a theory test called the “CEVNI”
Under new international regulations the ICC may now be issued by the RYA to include citizens of the USA and Canada and countries outside of the UNECE. The complete list of countries can be found HERE!
The ICC can also be issued after completion of some RYA practical courses, primarily the RYA Powerboat Level 2 and Day Skipper. Students who do the Level 2 powerboat course will only be entitled to the ICC for power driven vessels up to 10 metres
