The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is also known as the 'National Powerboat Certificate' and is generally considered as the licence for powerboats; it is often deemed the equivalent to a driving licence. The qualification is widely recognised throughout the world.

Course Structure

You will find a sample programme of the course below, the exact programme does vary sometimes around tides and weather. This course is largely practical so although there are some theory sections to complete wherever possible this is done on board the powerboat.

The course essentially proves everything you need to get starred with an emphasis son you becoming confident and competent at boat handling and being aware of the associated safety consideration and equipment. The RYA Powerboat Level 2 is broadly equivalent to a series of driving lessons, but a lot more fun.

This course is suitable for beginners and for those drivers with some experience who are looking for formal training.

Minimum age of 12 years applies; certificates for under 16s will be endorsed as "Not to be in charge of a powerboat unless under the supervision of a responsible adult".
