Ship Security Officer course also known as the SSO course. This is an MCA approved three day course which includes theory, case studies and practical scenarios to enable you to carry out the duties of the Ship Security Officer (SSO) on board a vessel that is required to be International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) compliant.
Our SSO course is delivered by Instructors who have served at sea in numerous security roles including Royal Navy boarding teams and Anti-Piracy team leaders. It covers all the administration requirements for the Ship Security Plan (SSP) as laid down in the ISPS Code, Searching, Stowaways, Staffing and the legal requirements. You will learn of current threats, security levels and staffing requirements to counter Terrorism, Piracy and common criminality.

Course Structure
A summary of duties required of the Ship Security Officer
Maintain and supervise the implementation of a ship security plan.
Assess security risk, threat and vulnerability.
Undertake regular inspections of the ship to ensure appropriate security measures are implemented and maintained.
Ensure that security equipment and systems, if any, are properly operated, tested and calibrated.
Encourage security awareness and vigilance.
Course content:
1: The importance of ship security and the roles and responsibilities of organisations and individuals involved in it.
2: Assessing security risk, threat and vulnerability to the ship, its personnel, cargo and operations.
3: Understanding the capabilities and limitations of security methods, equipment and systems.
4: How to implement a ship security plan and related regulatory requirements.
5: How to determine the effectiveness of current security arrangements, procedures and equipment.
6: Understanding how to promote security awareness and vigilance on board ship.
