This course is an advanced study of navigation, seamanship and meteorology. It deals with the more complex elements of safety, calculating tidal heights, secondary port tidal predictions, making offshore passages, pilotage and preparation for heavy weather.

It is highly recommended that this course is completed before attempting Coastal Skipper practical or either of the Yachtmaster practical exams.

Assessment for the course is in the form of three short exam papers. Upon successful completion, the RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased certificate will be issued.
