RYA Coastal Skipper

The aim of this course is to provide the skills and techniques required to skipper a cruising yacht (less than 15m LOA) safely on coastal and offshore passages. Sailing by day and night in non-tidal waters.The minimum age for the award of this certificate is 17 years old.

Previous Experience

Day skipper practical with theory up to Day Skipper Shorebased or Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Shorebased and at least 2 weeks sailing as skipper of a cruising yacht with not less than 8 night hours or an experience equivalent to Day Skipper with at least 2 weeks as skipper and a minimum of 300nm logged with not less than 8 night hours.
