RYA Competent Crew

The Competent Crew course introduces the complete beginner to sailing a cruising yacht. You will live onboard the yacht for the duration of the course as we sail around the beautiful Geographe Bay region.

Course Structure

You will learn how to steer the yacht and handle the sails, understand the different parts of the boat, her rigging and sails. You will practice sail handling and using ropes and winches. We will look at personal safety and how to recover a person from the water. During the week we will visit different ports and anchorages and you will experience sailing at night under the stars. You will learn about the weather and how it influences our plans and we look at the rules of the road and manners and customs.

At the end of a successful week, you will have reached the level required to be a useful member of the crew and you will be awarded a certificate to go in your log book. There is no minimum age for the Competent Crew course.
