RYA Day Skipper Theory

Our Day Skipper theory courses are either conducted over 6 weeks on 2 evenings per week or as a 5 day intensive course (5 day intensive course costs £460 inc VAT).

RYA Day Skipper is an intensive course providing extensive knowledge of the theory and practice of navigation. By the end of the course students will have a complete understanding of chartwork, navigation, safety, the rules of the road, and the ability to safely plan a passage on a chart.

Course Structure

The course syllabus contains some 40 hours of classroom tuition and approximately 10 hours of homework. There are 2 assessment papers that have to be completed during the course. Successful candidates are awarded the Day Skipper Shore Based certificate.

Day Skipper theory is the fundamental navigation course and includes most of the theory of Coastal Skipper and Yacht Master courses.
