This course concentrates on pilotage, navigation and boat handling under both sail and power. It will also improve your sail setting and deck work, as well as developing your knowledge and understanding of seamanship and safety issues. During the course you will be able to take charge of the yacht on short tidal passages, under the guidance of the instructor. Accommodation: • Food and accommodation are included.

Useful Information
Prerequisites • Minimum Age: 16 • 5 days aboard a yacht, including 100 miles sailed and 4 night hours • Knowledge of theory to the level of RYA Day Skipper, and be able to understand and calculate the following: o Calculate tidal heights using standard port graphs o Convert true bearings in to compass bearing applying variation and deviation o Work out a course to steer applying tidal set and drift o Work out an estimated position applying course steered, distance travelled, estimated tidal set and drift and leeway o Construct a passage plan for a short coastal passage, including pilotage plans for harbour exit and entry
