RYA Level 1 (Start Sailing)

The RYA Level 1: Start Sailing course at Burwain SC assumes that the student has not sailed before. The first session is normally conducted in a GP14 2 handed boat where you sail with an instructor. After this, depending on your confidence you will be able to sail by yourself one of the clubs Toppers or Laser Picos. You will learn how to rig the boat and receive an introduction to the boat’s controls. You will then take to the water to experience for the first time what it’s like to helm a sailing dinghy alone, under the close supervision of the RYA instructor(s).

By the end of the course you should have a basic understanding of boat handling techniques and background knowledge, and you will be awarded the RYA Level 1 certificate on successfully completing and understanding the modules of the RYA Level 1 syllabus on the National Sailing Scheme.
