The RYA Dinghy Instructor certificate is an internationally accepted and well recognised qualification.
As a sailing instructor you will be able to pass on your sailing knowledge to others safely with a large amount of satisfaction in the process.
The course is designed to create an instructor who is competent to teach adults and children, beginners and improvers.
What the course entails:
The course is run by an RYA Coach who will give training in teaching techniques both afloat and ashore. The course will be held over a five day week or take the form of a number of weekends. Before the start of the training each applicant will be given a training pack and a specific subject to do a talk on during the course.
On the final day of the course you will be moderated by an RYA Coach who has not been involved in the rest of the week’s training. They will be looking for competence in course preparation, delivery and management, and most importantly good interaction with students.
Certification:
The instructor’s certificate is valid for five years as long as you keep up your first aid qualification. At the end of those five years you need to send you log book in to the RYA with logged proof of teaching experience to receive your next five years validation.
Pre course requirements:
• Pre entry sailing assessment (completed within one year prior to the instructors course)
• A valid RYA First Aid Certificate
• A valid RYA Powerboat Level 2 Certificate
• A minimal age of 16 years
