A VHF radio may only be used by the holder of a VHF radio licence, or under their direct supervision. During the one day SRC course we will show you the basics of VHF radio, introduce procedures for different types of call and explain how to use the features of a modern VHF radio. We will cover both conventional radio procedure, as well as Digital Selective Calling (DSC) and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS).
This is a hands-on course using VHF radio equipment and computer simulators. At the end of the day there is a short assessment covering the topics practiced earlier in the day. Successful completion of the assessment will allow you to be awarded the Short Range Certificate. No prior knowledge is required before the course, however it would be helpful to be familiar with the phonetic alphabet. Students will be provided with the RYA course handbook at the time of booking.
Useful Information
