The course consists of 7 hours classroom learning with the candidate doing at least 3 hours home study prior to the course using the approved pack provided, which is sent by post. The classroom training runs from 0830 to 1630. Examinations commence when the course has finished so expect to stay behind to complete your examination.

· The basics of radio operation
· The correct frequencies (channels) to be used
· Distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures
· Making ship to shore telephone calls
· Digital Selective Calling (DSC) using simulators
·Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)
·Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB)
·Search and Rescue (SART)

The cost of the course is £140 plus £60 for the Examination paid to the RYA.
