RYA VHF Marine Radio (SRC)

The syllabus covers the use of a marine radio including GMDSS. Routine, distress and urgency procedures are covered. The SRC course comprises a full day session including assessment. In addition to the course fee of £100, a Certificate Issue fee of £30 is charged by the RYA, and the RYA publication G23-VHF Radio Telephony for Yachtsmen is required. GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) became fully operational in 1999. This latest development in marine communications adds a new feature to the long-established VHF radio with the introduction of Digital Selective Calling (DSC). This one-day course is designed for people wishing to obtain the Maritime Radio Operator Certificate of Competence - Short Range Certificate, in order to operate the VHF equipment legally.
