If you own a marine radio hand held or fixed set, you are required by law to hold an operator´s licence. This one day course is designed to teach the procedures for operation of a VHF/DSC radio for routine communication and for distress and emergency situations.
Course topics include the basics of radio operation, the correct frequencies (channels) to be used, distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures, making ship to shore telephone calls, Digital Selective Calling (DSC), Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB) and Search and Rescue Radar Transponders (SART).
The course will be taught using VHF/DSC radio simulators and will be examined by a short written test. Upon successful completion, the RYA Restricted (VHF only) Radio Operator licence will be issued by the RYA.
