RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Theory

The RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Theory course is a 5 day course providing the knowldege to confidently consider an ocean passage or long voyage as skipper or crew. The course covers Sextant Navigation, using the sun, stars and the moon, to find your position on planet earth without modern electronics. It also covers, perhaps more importantly, world wide meteorology, passage planning and preparation for long voyages, with the emphasis on safety.

Assumed knowledge is navigation to RYA Yachtmaster Offshore standard, but the YM Offshore certificate is not a requirement for the course. However, those wanting to continue to the RYA Yachtmaster Ocean examination must thave the RYA Yachmaster (offshore) as well as evidence of sights taken at sea, proof of long distance sailing, plus of course the Theory Certificate.
