1st Mate/Engineer/Alternate Captain
The vessel is a 103’ Royal Huisman performance cutter rigged sloop. She is a fast, safe, and extremely comfortable passage maker, having proved this with two circumnavigations and numerous offshore passages. She will be used for cruising during the appropriate seasons in the Pacific, Atlantic & Mediterranean Oceans.The owners are hands on but will run an additional crew of three, to manage the yacht, and host close friends and family aboard periodically. Preference will be given to a well experienced and qualified captain with strong engineering experience, Must have a proven track record in similar sized sailing yachts and be a detail oriented and excellence driven individual, but with a good sense of humour and great communication skills with owners, crew and related industry officials and trades. Must be highly motivated and a great leader, to work with the team or individually and willing to put your hands to any task needed. Honesty, integrity and safety conscious are prerequisites.
The owners are hands-on but are looking for a crew to manage the yacht, and host guests aboard. Preference will be given to experienced and qualified crew who have a proven track record of working as a team and who are both honest and trustworthy. Guests will occasionally be aboard with the owners.
This is a senior position as a dual role requiring assisting with the running of the vessel in conjunction with the Captain/Owner and standing in to the Captains role if and when required, particularly when the owner is away.
The successful applicant will require all the usual qualifications but essentially as a minimum, will need to hold a current Yacht Master Ocean, an advanced qualification in marine engineering and have logged at least 20,000 NM in a 25m+ sailing yacht.
Expertise in route planning, watch rosters, maintenance planning and safety management will be prerequisites.
Operate, monitor, maintain and manage the engineering on board the vessel including but not limited to the following:
Main Engine, 2 x generators, 3 x alternators, 3 chargers, 2 x hydraulic banks, Watermaker, Air conditioning, Windlass, 4 x battery banks, various pumps and all other equipment required for the efficient running of the vessel.
Manage the emergency drills and safety briefing for all crew and guests on board and generally ensure the smooth running of all equipment and machinery on board
Start date is 1st May 2025.
Interviews will be conducted between 15th March and 20th March and selection will be by 22nd March.
