Seeking Mate for rotational position. 10 weeks on/10 weeks off. €5,000 - €6,000 p.m.
50m private classic ketch, launched Jan 2020. Privately owned.
Currently in the Caribbean. Summer in New England/Canada. Caribbean winter 25/26.
Mate and acting First Officer Duties:
- Handling/manoeuvring the vessel at times, and in command in Captain’s absence
- Manage crew and contractors
- Set watch keeping schedules
- Maintain SMS, Mini-ISM Maintain nautical charts and publications (DSNM Compass) Furuno ECDIS. Good knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and databases
- Watch leader, navigation, deck/general safety and sailing
- Supervise deck maintenance, servicing winches, deck hardware etc
- Good working knowledge of paint/varnish so as to inform/teach/monitor deck crew
- Overseeing deck crew and train deck crew in sail handling
- Manage contractors, day workers etc.
Licence: Yacht Master Offshore minimum requirement. Would prefer OOW 3,000. ECDIS certified.
B1 B2 visa.
Should have great personality and be outgoing, fit and healthy. A seasoned big boat sailor. We sail a lot and I like to sail on deliveries. Excellent knowledge of navigation and rules of road required, sense of humor is essential. Hard worker with leadership skills, empathetic, good communicator, and team player. The vessel will be happy to hand over as much responsibility as they determine the Mate can handle. This position would be great stepping stone for those seeking future command.
