Useful Information
This HND in Nautical Science meets the requirements of \'an approved education and training programme\', one of the criteria that must be fulfilled to obtain a Chief Mate\'s Unlimited Certificate of Competency (CoC) under the STCW code.
To qualify for the issue of a Chief Mate\'s Unlimited CoC candidates must meet the following requirements:
(a) Hold a valid Officer of the Watch (OOW) Unlimited Certificate of Competency;
(b) Have completed 12 months’ watchkeeping service while holding an OOW Unlimited CoC;
(c) Hold the applicable ancillary and safety course certificates;
(d) Successfully complete an approved education and training programme;
(e) Pass SQA Chief Mate written exams in Navigation and Stability and Structure;
(f) Hold a valid ENG1 (medical fitness certificate) or accepted equivalent;
(g) Pass MCA oral examination `B’.
Candidates should have at least a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Nautical Science.
NOTE: Candidates wishing to obtain a Chief Mate\'s Certificate of Competency will have to meet additional sea-time and qualification requirements
