Efficient Deckhand (EDH)

The Efficient Deck hand course at UKSA will enable a better understanding of shipboard organisation and operations, pilot ladders and means of access, cargo work, safety and seamanship, including knots, splicing and whipping and seizing. Accommodation: • Food and accommodation are available onsite at UKSA. The residential price for this course is £995.

Course Structure

The course covers: • basic seamanship • ropework and wirework • use of lifting equipment • rigging of stages and bosuns’ chairs • basic painting and maintenance routines • steering and duties of the lookout and the responsibilities of crew members under the Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seamen.

Useful Information

Pre-requisite experience: • A minimum of six months sea service in a deck capacity. • You must hold a Navigational Watch Rating Certificate of RYA/IYT Offshore Yachtmaster and practical CoC. Examination and assessment: • There is an oral and practical examination at the end of the course carried out by an approved MCA examiner.
