About This Course:
The course is MCA approved and follows the IMO model course 1.27.
Aim
The course complies with Generic course requirements, is also delivered as part of the NAEST operational certificate.
Entry requirements
Learners will hold a deck certificate of competency at the operational level, or as part of a planned training program.
Outcome
The learner can use ECDIS as a planning, monitoring and effective Navigational system.
Assessment
The course is assessed at the end of the final day, with a theoretical and practical exam.
Course content
Duration of course is 5 days, (40 hours) within the course the following elements will be dealt with;
" SOLAS convention and timescale for introduction
" Chart type and construction
" Hardware and software limitations
" Approved and Non approved systems
" Settings, Chart layers, safety parameters
" Readme files, IHO Data check
" Position fixing and monitoring
" Chart planning and checking
" Real time simulation exercise.
Course delivery
Each student has their own Transas ECDIS system, with full conning, radar and visual systems. Using practical group work sessions and multimedia, the functionality of an ECDIS system is introduced to the student.
Candidates are asked to bring proof of identity and sea time at the start of the course
