The MCA SSO course follows the ISPS Code, which is a comprehensive set of maritime security measures to enhance the safety and security of ships and port facilities against criminal, terrorist, maritime espionage breaches and international piracy. It does this by providing a standardised framework model of risk management that is internationally recognised. Designed during the fall out of the 9/11 attacks, it is implemented through XI-2 of the SOLAS (Safety Of Life At Sea) Convention and is mandatory for the 148 contracting governments who have signed up to this.
