The advanced powerboat course is a practical course, with a small amount of classroom work.
At Guardian Marine the culmination of the course is that each student will be responsible for the navigation and safe passage of the vessel during their own section of a 30 to 50 mile journey by day and night. (Weather conditions permitting).
Finding lit and unlit marks. At the end of the course, successful candidates will be awarded the Advanced Powerboat Course Completion Certificate.
Those candidates that wish to gain a Certificate of Competence will be required to attend a practical exam with an external examiner.
Lifejackets are supplied.
•Warm clothing.
•Dry Suits must be worn at all times on the water. If you do not possess your own you may hire one of ours at a nominal cost of £30.00 per person for the course duration.
•You may also bring your own lifejacket but it must conform to EN 396, be in good condition and have minimum buoyancy of 150 newtons and a DOT approved light.
•Suitable footwear for being on board a high-speed craft such as deck shoes, sailing boots (not gardening wellies please) or old trainers.
•A change of clothing. In case of emergency.
•Snacks and drinks whilst afloat.
Useful Information
Candidates should be competent to the standard of the Intermediate Powerboat Certificate with a thorough knowledge of navigation and chartwork to the level of Dayskipper shorebased.
You are required to hold a first aid certificate and VHF operator's certificate.
Please note:
Rusty boat handling skills and poor knowledge is not an option. Although you will be taught some boat handling skills, this course is about teaching you advanced navigation by night.
