The RYA Coastal Skipper theory with Yachtmaster theory course builds on the knowledge gained on the Day Skipper theory course. This RYA course is an advanced course aimed at skippers of both sail and power boats looking to embark on new more difficult passages possibly offshore or at night. This RYA course is essential for those looking to gain the RYA Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster Offshore practical exams.
The RYA coastal skipper theory with Yachtmaster theory course is an intensive RYA course covering course shaping and plotting, advanced navigation techniques, position fixing, navigation in restricted visibility, tidal knowledge, secondary port calculations, Admiralty publications and electronic position finding equipment. The Coastal Skipper Theory with Yachtmaster theory course includes meteorology tuition , the taking and interpretation of forecasts, plotting of weather systems and weather prediction. You will learn how to use this information when planning and executing passage plans. Students will also cover in detail the International Regulations for Prevention of Collision at Sea aswell as more about yacht stability and safety offshore.
During the course students sit three exams and will be awarded the RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory Certificate.

Useful Information
This RYA shorebased course, is run over 6 days or 3 weekends. The RYA Course materials including the Yachtmaster theory course notes are included. As well as morning and afternoon tea, which is included on all our RYA theory courses. Students of the Yachtmaster Theory course should have a good grasp of RYA theory subjects to Day Skipper standard and have thoroughly revised the Collision Regulations before attending.
