This course is run by the RYA but operators licence is issued on behalf of the Marine & Coastguard Agency (MCA). It is a legal requirement to hold an operators licence to use a marine VHF transeiver under normal circumstances. You will learn about and operate the radios, Digital Selective Calling (DSC), Global Maritime Distress & Safety System (GMDSS) and send Distress, Urgency, Safety and Routine Calls. Each course is delivered by an RYA, SRC Assessor and an independent Assessor will examine the students.
There is now an Online Course available for those who wish to take time at home, on the train or breaks at work. There is complete online support from our SRC Assessor and a suitable examination time will be arranged to suit your busy schedule.
The RYA VHF Handbook is provided for all students. Emphasis is on practical use of the radios, both digitally and manually with voice messages. You will use specially adapted normal marine radios in our classroom. There are written and practical radio use assessments at the conclusion of the course. SRC assessments can be arranged subject to proof of course completion.
