RYA VHF Marine Radio (SRC)

The marine VHF radio remains one of the most effective methods that the small craft skipper has to call for assistance. This course provides all the theoretical knowledge and procedures to operate a VHF radio. Regular VHF radio operators need a licence called the Short Range Certificate to operate a VHF radio. This includes inland sailing clubs where VHF marine band radios are typically used for safety boats and race control.

Course Structure

Types of VHF communication, VHF radios, using digital selective calling, phonetic alphabet, procedures, using the controls, other radio safety aids, global distress and safety system.

Some sea going experience is desirable.

Cost: £70 inclusive for course only. £60 for examination extra.
