LIVE ON OR OFF in Ft. Lauderdale area

In cover: Advise you prefer to live on or off. If off, do you live in or near FTL, you are a licensed engineer for a 50m yacht.

Start date : ASAP

Itinerary:  Local- Bahamas trip about once a month for a week or so, otherwise just dock in FTL so can go home at night. M-F, when not traveling. Owners use around 15 weeks per year.

Requirements: USCG equivalent to EEOWIII/1(MN) or III/3(Y3)

EXPECTATIONS OF THE ENGINEER

Perform the role with enthusiasm and dedication.

Understand it is about getting the job done. It is not about working nine to five and clock punching.

Understand that the Engineer is responsible for ensuring the yacht’s equipment and machinery is in good working order at all times by performing fixing and maintenance tasks with the minimum use of 3rd party contractors.

Understand that success in the role is also measured in terms of productivity. For example, how many failures fixed over a given period? How quickly are failures fixed on average? How many preventative maintenance tasks are completed in a given time scale?

Understand that respect from other crew members, credibility and seniority are earned by hard work and performing the role successfully. 

Start work punctually.

Follow the preventative maintenance schedule and perform maintenance duties as required by the schedule.

Fix unexpected equipment failures promptly and in the best manner possible.

Keep the engine room and all related engineering work spaces clean, organized and in immaculate condition.

Prioritize maintenance tasks and equipment fixes depending on what is happening.

Plan his or her work and then work that plan.

Work to improve the quality and accuracy of engineering processes such as planned maintenance schedules or create necessary documentation.

Be capable of and figure out how to operate all of the equipment and systems on the boat such as engines, generators, AV, oil water separators, fuel transfer pumps, etc.

Maintain an adequate inventory of spare parts and consumables for all equipment and systems on board for the safe and uninterrupted operation of the yacht.

Plan and implement a general upgrade program to ensure machinery and equipment is continually upgraded as it reaches the end of its service life. Includes annual shipyard period.

Log what he or she had done each day and to what piece of machinery or equipment.

Keep updated daily the unexpected failure or work list.

Complete all documentation he or she is required to do so such as oil record book or departure check lists or unexpected failure list or preventative maintenance records. To be done in the required manner and timescales specified by Class, Flag and the Master.

Participate in the gangway watch schedule when on the dock.

Participate in the anchor watch schedule when at anchor.

Help out other departments when and where needed on board.

The candidate ideally will have a Cayman Island discharge book and be comfortable using Triton software.


Compensation Package

Monthly salary dependent on experience.

Annual salary review in May each year and increases are from 3% to 6% dependent upon job performance.

Annual bonus at Owner and management’s discretion.

Christmas bonus at Owner and management’s discretion.

Health care plan covering crew member, spouse and children.

Paid sick days.

Education/ training provided after one year of continuous employment.

Paid training days provided after one year of continuous employment

Other: 

Person can live on or off ship. We don’t offer rotation, but we are used around 15 weeks a year. Typically, we are away for a month once a year but the rest of the time we have a guest trip and return to Fort Lauderdale after. This means the crew can have a life ashore if they wish which makes the need for rotation redundant.


Package consists of monthly salary, annual bonus, Christmas bonus, 38 days paid vacation, days off in lieu, medical insurance for person/spouse/family and there is a training component.
