The 2nd Engineer works very closely with the Chief engineer and assists the Chief with the required tasks to ensure smooth running of engine room operations. The 2nd Engineer will teach skills to the 3rd/junior engineers and will execute planned maintenance. The 2nd engineer will be technically minded and have good working knowledge of all on board systems, troubleshooting and repair as well as have valuable knowledge on any safety aspects of the vessel.
Qualifications, training and skills required
Qualification depending on vessel requirements and size Y4 up to Y2
Advanced knowledge of on board systems
Excellent technical and trouble shooting experience
