RYA Day Skipper Theory

The Day skipper course is an integral part of the overall cruising scheme. It is an essential building block of knowledge for those wishing to progress to the Day Skipper practical course. It equips you with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day and provides a basic knowledge of lights to help introduce you to night cruising.

Course Based at: Marina Ibiza

Course price: €895 + 21% IVA

Course duration: 5 days

Minimum age: 16 years

Pre-course experience / requirements: None although a little practical time may help

Course content:

• the basics of seamanship

• the essentials of coastal navigation and pilotage

• chartwork

• electronic charts

• position fixing

• plotting a course to steer

• weather forecasting and meteorology

• tides

• collision regulations

• construction, parts and equipment of a cruising boat

• emergency and safety procedures including distress calls, use of flares, safety harnesses, lifejackets and liferafts

Course includes: Course certificate

Ability after course: Background knowledge to navigate a small yacht in familiar waters by day. A basic knowledge of lights, weather and IRPCS is also included.
