Burgess recruitment is currently seeking a 2nd Engineer for a 50m yacht
We are seeking an experienced 2nd Engineer to join a private vessel with a single-season Mediterranean itinerary. This role requires someone capable of providing comprehensive engineering support, maintaining all onboard systems, and assisting with overall yacht operations.

- Minimum of 3 years in a similar engineering role, either onboard yachts or commercial vessels.
- Experience working on yachts with similar size preferred, but not mandatory.
- Technical Knowledge
- Expertise in mechanical and electrical systems, engines, generators, water makers, air conditioning units, and auxiliary equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- Soft Skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small engineering team.
- Good communication skills to coordinate with crew, Captain, and charter guests when needed.
- Organizational skills for managing maintenance schedules and record-keeping.
- Background
- Open to candidates from a commercial shipping background, provided they meet the relevant certification requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Operations: Assist the Chief Engineer in managing the daily operations of the engine room, including routine monitoring of all mechanical and electrical systems onboard.
- Preventive Maintenance: Ensure regular upkeep and maintenance of machinery, including engines, generators, HVAC systems, electrical systems, and all other technical equipment onboard.
- System Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues with various onboard systems, including propulsion, auxiliary systems, and electronic controls.
- Logbook Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance tasks, repairs, and checks as per yacht management and flag state requirements.
- Emergency Response: Respond quickly to any engineering emergencies and coordinate with the Chief Engineer and crew to resolve issues in an efficient manner.
- Spare Parts Management: Assist in maintaining inventory for spare parts, tools, and consumables, and support in procuring replacement parts as required.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations as required by maritime laws, ensuring all equipment is in full compliance.
